What made you choose Chennai as your partying hub?
Back in 2008-2009 when we just had about two pubs in town, Dublin and Pasha. Dublin was my go-to place, more like my “adda”, mainly because it was very close to my work. My friends and I would eagerly wait for the weekend so we could go out and party. We’ve made so many memories there and I would give anything to just relive all those moments. The feeling of dancing with your group, breaking a leg with your people, is extremely special and memorable.
You’ve been partying for over a decade now! What has changed in the party scenario according to you?
There have been numerous changes in party life throughout the decade. To begin with, we have a countless number of pubs and resto-bars now. Back then only youngsters can be found at pubs. Now you can find people of all age groups come, party, and socialize at clubs! There are specific places that have been aestheticized according to moods and age groups now, giving people the option to choose a bar/pub accordingly. Another big change that has taken place is closing time. Before the pubs used to be opened only up to a certain time, but now, the partying hours at Chennai are unlimited!
What are your favorite party places in town
I love almost all the pubs in town! But to name a few, I’d have to say Lord of the Drinks, Gatsby, Cheroot, Radio Room & Pasha. Each one of these places has an amazing ambiance and the more people you are around with, the more fun you have. It always starts with the lord of the drinks and ends at Pasha.
You are a party animal, How has this COVID lockdown affected you?
Extremely horrible! The very first week of the pandemic was fine. I spent it on doing something new every day, and of course, I had the luxury to sleep longer. I used to interact with people through Insta-live and the house party app. It was all great in the beginning, but as soon as it became monotonous, it hit me. I am someone who loves going out, socializing, hanging out with my friends, and partying. But the COVID came and screwed it all over.
Do you think COVID will have any effect on pubs?
Very much! A lot of new pubs opened a few weeks prior to the lockdown. With many restrictions in place we will have to wait and see, how many pubs reopen and how many close forever.
Now that govt has announced clubs can open, do you think the party scene will be the same as before?
Without a doubt, yes! The party scenes will get back to normal within no time now that the government has announced the reopening of clubs. My friends and I went to my favorite resto-bar last Saturday and it was completely packed. All of us were eagerly waiting for clubs and bars to reopen, and now that they are, we are going to compensate for all the time that we have missed.
We Chennaiites love socializing and nothing can stop that. Not even COVID.
